Nathalie TAUZIAT

aka Nath

It wasn't easy for a French woman to be in the Wimbledon finals in July 1998.

At that moment, all eyes were turned to the Football World Cup. And yet, at age 30, eight years after winning her first title on the WTA tour, Nathalie Tauziat played in her first and only Grand Slam final on the grass courts of London, against Jana Novotna. Her performance landed her in the Top 10 of the world ranking (number 8), where she stayed until 2001, even climbing all the way to number 3 in 2000. Her attack-oriented game was a great success at Wimbledon. It was an approach she had only been practising for a few years, having sensed that her lack of power in the backcourt was holding her back. Nathalie Tauziat was an impeccably steady player: the French woman stayed in the world top 20 – or just out of it – for more than 20 years between 1990 and 2001. She made the quarter-finals in singles play at Roland-Garros in 1991 (her best performance in Paris) and she also made a mark in doubles, with 58 finals and 25 titles. Nathalie Tauziat courted controversy for her position in the Camaret case. Today she is a coach in the Canadian federation. The mother of three girls also splits her time with the Capbreton Gaillou Tennis Club, her favourite. Long live Basque country!

Current projects: personal coach, trainer for Tennis Canada (female players and Fed Cup)
