Serena Williams announced that she is 20 weeks pregnant but then deleted the Snapchat post announcing her happy news. It would mean that she won the Australian Open in January while pregnant.

The Australian Open was her 23rd career major putting her one behind the all-time leader of majors, Margaret Court who in 1971 at Wimbledon played the final which she lost to Evonne Goolagong, while pregnant with her first child, Daniel.

Serena has not played an event since the Australian Open but was down to play Madrid before this year's French Open. However with this pregnancy news she would not be expected at Madrid, Roland Garros or any other event this year as she prepares for her wedding to fiancé Alex Ohanian and now motherhood.

Serena has always been up for a challenge and it certainly would not come as a surprise to see her back on court after time off with the baby despite her age.

The 35 year old could certainly look to become the first mother since Kim Clijsters at the 2009 US Open to win a major. Unless Victoria Azarenka decides to throw a spanner in the works, she is apparently due back on tour for Stanford during the American summer swing. But Serena would be the oldest mum to win a major if she does on her return. Who'd want to bet against her doing it ... it is Serena Williams remember?

Kim became the first mother since Goolagong at Wimbledon in 1980 to win a major. Evonne in turn was the first mother to win Wimbledon since Dorothea Lambert Chambers in 1914.
