It’s one of Roland-Garros’ biggest sensations ever : Jelena Ostapenko, who just turned 20 and who was unseeded at the start of the tournament won the women’s tournament with an incredibly attacking tennis. Enough to take the first spot in our ranking in front of a legendary but expected Nadal and a defeated Wawrinka who remained remarkable.

1- Jelena Ostapenko (NE).

A star is born : Jelena Ostapenko, who was only the world number 47 at the start of the tournament, beat the odds and won the final against Simona Halep.

A pretty incredible final during which Halep was leading for a long time before being crushed, like everyone else before her, by the Latvian’s energy and attacking tennis.

An Ostapenko who’s been incredibly bold and daring on the court.

The presumed pest of the circuit clearly showed her strong personality but also some beautiful smiles on the Parisian clay.

2- Rafael Nadal (+5).

In the men’s tournament, the scenario was different, with Rafael Nadal’s much expected tenth victory.

There was no suspense : Nadal crushed everyone, from the first round to the final against Wawrinka.

He was legitimately congratulated by everyone, including Timea Bacsinszky, who had a few nice words for him.

And also including Mister Roger Federer.

The greatest ever on clay celebrated his 31st birthday, like every year, during the fortnight.

3- Stan Wawrinka (NE).

Hats off to the defeated finalist, Stan Wawrinka, who had the merit of winning the match of the fortnight : his semi-final against Murray. In 5 sets, and and incredible battle which lasted 4h34.

The Swiss, as usual, gave everything he had on the clay court. Being fully involved…

…under one of his fellow countryman’s glance, the football player Johan Djourou.

Against Nadal, however, it was an impossible mission. Too bad for the winner of the 2015 edition, who had to settle for the finalist’s trophy.

4- Timea Bacsinszky (NE).

During this fortnight, we had a big crush on Timea Bacsinszky, who shone on the court as well as outside the courts.

The Swiss is everyone’s friend.

So obviously, she was supported by everyone, and notably Martina Hingis.

The semi-finalist of the tournament, who played her second semi-final after 2015, very much deserved her holidays.

5- Novak Djokovic (-4).

Appearances can be deceptive in Djoko’s case.

The Serb, once again, missed his come-back, despite Agassi’s support, and a few moments of brilliance. He’s still missing something, as shown in the last moments of this rally, which was one of the most beautiful ones of the fortnight.

It’s back to square one for the ex-world number 1, who’s still pretty far from his best level, and who ended up being crushed in the quarter finals by Dominic Thiem, before leaving for Belgrade to dry his tears.

6- David Goffin (NE).

David Goffin also ended his tournament prematurely, after getting his foot stuck in the tarpaulin during his match against Zeballos.

As a result, he went home early and was forced to rest.

But the Belgian seems to be recovering pretty fast.

7- Garbine Muguruza (+4).

It was one of the striking images of the fortnight : Garbine Muguruza, who was heckled by the Parisian crowed, knocked out by Kristina Mladenovic, and who crumbled in her post-match press conference.
