A third week in a row on the podium for Eugenie Bouchard, who multiplied the publicity stunts : glamorous pictures, and a date with a fan. The Canadian leads the pack in front of another princess of the circuit, Caroline Wozniacki, and King Federer, who’s been having fun in the snow, at home, in the Swiss Alps.
1- Eugenie Bouchard (+1).
In the latest WTA ranking, Eugenie Bouchard is only ranked at the 45th spot. However, she’s been in the news for many weeks. Her latest swimsuit photoshoot in Sports Illustrated should increase her popularity a bit more…
Last week, the Canadian also held her promise : taking a fan on a date with her, after she predicted the wrong score a few days earlier during the Super Bowl.
A good opportunity to create a buzz. Bouchard knows quite a lot about that.
2- Caroline Wozniacki (NE).
A swimwear photoshoot staging tennis players, is obviously a big event for Caroline Wozniacki.
The Dane almost outshone everyone else…
At least, she was also mentioned in the sports pages this week, with good performances at the Qatar Open…
…which ended by a lost final against Karolina Pliskova.
3- Roger Federer (-2).
Last week, Federer was seen at the Alpine World Ski Championships, in Switzerland, to cheer on his fellow countrymen as well as Lindsay Vonn. And it looks like he stayed around for a pretty original photo session.
He also met with Bear Grylls, the star host of Man vs Wild. Certainly not a coincidence…
In any case, the two seemed to have a lot of fun. We can’t wait for the episode to come out.
4- Serena Williams (+11).
It’s hard to miss out on the annual buzz created by the « Swimsuit edition » of Sports Illustrated. Serena Williams also posed in a swimsuit, for pictures which looked more natural than ever…
A photoshoot which made her a little tired.
5- Karolina Pliskova (NE).
Meanwhile, Karolina Pliskova keeps on winning : after the Brisbane tournament in January, the Czech won her second title of the season in Doha, the eight title of her career in the singles.
A win which consolidates her third spot at the WTA ranking, behind Serena Williams and Angelique Kerber.
In Doha, she also took the opportunity to take a little Valentine’s Day souvenir picture with her boyfriend.
6- Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (NE).
A trophy for Tsonga ! The thirteenth title of his career on the circuit, and the first since the 2015 Moselle Open.
In Rotterdam, the Frenchman also received a very appropriate gift from the local journalists…
Before quickly coming home.
7- David Goffin (NE).
In Rotterdam, if the lucky finalist was Tsonga, the unlucky finalist was David Goffin.
At the end of this lost match against Tsonga, he made a small Freudian slip, which had everyone laughing. He spoke about his « girlfriends », with the plural. Old school Marat Safin style.
The Belgian is clearly more at ease with a racquet in hand than with a microphone.
He even made his opponents shine, as here, with Grigor Dimitrov.
8- Stefan Kozlov (NE).
But the shot of the week was made by Stefan Kozlov in the second round of the Tempe Challenger tournament, in the USA. Just admire.
9- Novak Djokovic (-5)
Dressed as a communicant, Novak Djokovic celebrated Valentine’s day with his wife. Woo, it looked like a great party !
The romantic date took place at home, in Monaco, in his vegan restaurant. We’ll let you be the judge of this festive menu.
10- Rafael Nadal (+4).
On his side, Nadal was in Madrid last week to enjoy HIS Real Madrid’s victory over Naples in the Champions League (3-1).
The Majorcan had a great time.
Much nicer pictures than the boring pictures he usually shares on his social networks to please his sponsors…
11- Alexandr Dolgopolov (NE).
Hey, Alexandr Dolgopolov has won a tournament, a first on the ATP circuit since his voctory in Washington in…2012. He defeated Key Nishikori in the final of the Buenos Aires tournament. Solid.
A Dolgopolov who’s been nicknamed « The Dog », and who, according to this picture, is a tasteful, discreet, and sophisticated man…
12- Pablo Cuevas (NE).
The fall of the week is for Pablo Cuevas, who ended up with his face in the net during his first-round loss in Buenos Aires, against the future winner of the tournament, Alexandr Dolgopolov.
Cuevas, who shared his nice strolls in Argentina on the social networks.
A good opportunity to notice that the Argentinian coast actually looks like the cliffs of Normandy.
13- Ryan Harrison (NE).
Harrison has won the most original trophy of the circuit : a guitar.
For the unlucky finalist, Nikoloz Basilashvili, the loser’s disc.
It’s obviously in Memphis that these prizes were given, and Ryan Harrison can be satisfied after winning the first tournament of his career, for his first final played.
14- Pierre-Hugues Herbert (NE).
Pierre-Hugues Herbert also produced a good performance in Rotterdam, by defeating the seed number 2 of the tournament, Dominic Thiem, in the quarter final.
A first victory in the singles against a top 10 player (and even a top 20 player !) for the Frenchman, who then lost against the Belgian David Goffin in the semi-final.
15- Juan Martin Del Potro (NE).
A video for a little treat to end this ranking ? Yes, it’s possible, with more than 5 minutes to admire the immense Juan Martin Del Potro during training.
Everyone is a fan of the Argentine.
Outs :
Sharapova, Bychkova, Petkovic, Strykova, Bascinszky, Estrella Burgos, Dimtrov, Zverev, Pospisil, Fognini
