In London, Novak Djokovic won the fifth ATP World Tour Finals of his career, the fourth consecutive, which earned him the top spot in our WeAreTennis ranking. In final, the Serb dominated Roger Federer, who goes straight to the second place for his strokes of genius delivered throughout the week and, of course, his stubble. Rafael Nadal completes the podium with his tweets.
1- Novak Djokovic (+10).
He might have lost a match in the group stage of the ATP World Tour Finals against Roger Federer, ending a series of 38 victories indoor, but Novak Djokovic remains the boss of the men's tour. He proved it by winning the last major tournament of the season for the fifth time in his career, the fourth consecutive.
In the semi-finals, the Serb dominated the Spanish Rafael Nadal (6-3, 6-3) before defeating the same Federer in final (6-3, 6-4). With, each time, exceptional points.
Before lifting his eleventh trophy of the season, Nole took advantage of his family, who followed him in London this week.
2- Roger Federer (NE).
Years are like water off a duck's back for him. At 34, Federer is still impressive. The Swiss played a dream tennis in London, only losing in final against Djokovic that he had defeated in the group stage. Thanks in particular to this exceptional volley, which allowed him to win the first set.
For his victory in semi-final against his compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka, the Swiss also did things well.
A level of play that earned him the admiration of everybody, including James Blake’s.
This week, King Roger surprised everyone. For his inspirations on the court, but also for his stubble, him who is usually clean-shaven. Asked at a press conference whether he intended to keep it or not, he responded with humour: "I don't know yet. If my daughters think that it stings, I will shave it. If I don't like it when I look at myself in the mirror, I will shave it too. Mirka likes it. It's ok. But you know, I also take decisions alone (laughs)!"
3- Rafael Nadal (/).
Despite losing against Novak Djokovic in semi-finals, Rafael Nadal can be satisfied with his ATP World Tour Finals: The Spaniard won his three group stage matches, successively beating Stan Wawrinka (6-3, 6-2), Andy Murray (6-4, 6-1) and David Ferrer (6-7, 6-3, 6-4). Just like this lob against the second, Rafa seems to be progressively getting back to his best level and can approach 2016 with confidence.
With all his Twitter followers (8,710,000 followers), Nadal is taking advantage of his back and forth between the tennis courts and the hotel to read the messages from his fans...
... And closely monitor the performance of other Spanish sport stars, especially basketball player Pau Gasol.
4- Serena Williams (NE).
While the season has just ended, Serena Williams is already thinking about the next and, in particular, about the Rio Olympics. With the ambition of bringing back the same memories...
Otherwise, this week the American met with the actress, model and businesswoman Beverly Johnson.
She also hung out with her friend, the actor Colton Haynes, from the Arrow TV show. His "look-alike from within", as she likes to call him.
5- Benoît Paire (/).
When he's on holiday, Benoit Paire does three things: he plays with farm animals...
...He tans in the sun, even in winter...
...And he eats cheese.
Going back to training will be difficult for the best comeback of the year.
6- Caroline Wozniacki (+1).
This week, Caroline Wozniacki took advantage her holiday to dip in the pool. As a kid in the water.
Unfortunately for the Dane, the holidays are already almost over. She will soon have to go back to training.
Sunday, Wozniacki, unconditional supporter of Liverpool, watched the Reds win at Manchester City (1-4) for her greatest pleasure.
7- Andy Murray (+6).
Not a great week for Andy Murray. In front of a London public yet won over to his cause, the Brit was eliminated from the group stage of the World Tour Finals. He won his first match against David Ferrer (6-4, 6-4), before losing against another Spaniard, Rafael Nadal (6-4, 6-1) and then against the Swiss Stan Wawrinka (7-6, 6-4). Yet we cannot blame him for not tearing himself away at each point. Even at 5-1 for his opponent in the second set.
Murray finally made less noise with his performance on the courts than for his scissor at the beginning of his match against Nadal. A lock of hair was bothering the Scot who took a pair of scissors to get rid of it.
"I had my hair in my eyes, I just wanted to get rid of it, it took me two seconds," he said after the match.
8- Fabio Fognini (NE).
Chair Umpires vs. Fabio Fognini, Act 175. The relations of the Italian with officials are often very complicated. But this week Fognini, who was playing the ATP World Tour Finals in doubles with his compatriot Simone Bolelli, was in good spirits. He then decided to play with the sock of the referee during a match.
Before that, Fognini made the most of London life with his friend Bolelli and his girlfriend Flavia Pennetta.
After the elimination of the duo, Fognini posted a message to thank his fans and staff and said that he was looking forward to 2016.
9- Maria Sharapova (-5).
Maria Sharapova was in New York this week. The Russian filmed a commercial for Nike, but was mostly busy eating chocolate.
She then went to Madison Avenue for an exhibition that she seemed to appreciate.
When she goes shopping in New York, Sharapova buys Moroccan spices and Thai curry. Normal.
Finally a young fan sent her drawings on Twitter. The star was thrilled.
10- Pierre-Hugues Herbert (NE).
He has to be content with this. Eliminated from the group stage of the World Tour Finals with his doubles partner Nicolas Mahut (a victory for two losses), Pierre-Hugues Herbert has still managed one of the most beautiful points of the week, if not the most beautiful. Enjoy.
Herbert London who has found a new style.
11- Karolina Pliskova (-9).
After having brilliantly winning the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas with the Czech Republic Karolina Pliskova continued to celebrate the title with her teammates earlier this week.
She then went on holiday, at the beach. Beautiful tattoo.
She finished her week by kissing a dolphin.
12- Dustin Brown (NE).
The German Gael Monfils. Dustin Brown made the show at the Brescia Challenger this week. In the quarterfinals, he defeated Illya Marchenko after a superb volley.
But Brown was eventually eliminated in the semi-finals by Basic (6-4, 7-6). Pity.
13- Victoria Azarenka (NE).
Victoria Azarenka started the week with another thought for the victims of the attacks in Paris.
She then went to the cinema to see the movie Creed that she enjoyed. Rest assured, she didn't spoiled it.
Later in the week, on Saturday, the Belarusian watched the Clasico and seemed happy Saturday night after the victory of Barça on the pitch of Real Madrid (0-4)
But the news of the week is that Azarenka has the weirdiest dog in the world.
14- Tomas Berdych (NE).
Tomas Berdych had a very tough week in London. The Czech lost his three matches against Federer, Djokovic and Nishikori, after only winning a single set. This didn't stop him from thanking his staff for the past season.
After his elimination, Berdych immediately went on holiday in the sunshine.
Jealousy.
15- Eugenie Bouchard (-5).
Eugenie Bouchard spent her week off making advertisement for the famous swoosh. She also took the plane and obviously enjoyed the ride with the crew.
Before that, the Canadian had trouble doing her suitcases. Because when she put music on, she dances and forgets all her things...
Out:
Wawrinka, Ivanovic, Gasquet, Nieminen, Nishikori, Haas, Garcia
