Amélie MAURESMO

aka Amé

When Amélie Mauresmo was four, she watched Yannick Noah win Roland-Garros and she knew.

She knew she would devote her life to tennis. Quite the idea! Amé really had it all: tactical smarts, power, implacable technical prowess, an ability to change up her game and, best of all, a beautiful single-handed backhand. Most importantly, she was effective. Those qualities, combined with a major work ethic and lots of effort, propelled Mauresmo to her first major final in 1999 in Melbourne, when she was just 19. From one strong finish to the next, from one title to the next (25 in total), the woman from Biarritz became the first French woman in the Open Era to reach the top of the world rankings on 13 September 2004. Then the dream was achieved in 2006 with two major titles: the Australian Open and Wimbledon. Okay, so Amélie Mauresmo never did make it past the quarter-finals at the French Open. And then what? Retired since 2009, the mother of Aaron and Ayla has set an example in pursuing other careers, as the had of France's Fed Cup team and as the coach of Andy Murray and Lucas Pouille. Amé turns everything she touches into gold. The rest of the time, the young forty-something and wine lover makes the most of life. What else?

Current projects: coach (Lucas Pouille) and television commentator.
