TENNIS AND HITCHCOCK

Vertigo is something that German player Philipp Kohlschreiber had but it was also the title of a famous Alfred Hitchcock movie, so which tennis characters could connect to Hitchcock movies?

When I heard that the German player Philipp Kohlschreiber had to withdraw from his match at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome because he had vertigo I was sort of amused. Sure I felt sorry for Kohlschreiber but it’s not a reason that I have seen too often being given for a player withdrawal.

Surely he hadn’t been watching one of Alfred Hitchcock’s most famous movies

The legendary movie director who died in 1980 made so many amazing movies which gave me the idea of matching some of his movies to characters in tennis.

So here we go:

NO.17:  C’mon who else but Roger Federer fits that one?

FAMILY PLOT: What about the Bryan twins, Bob and Mike?

FRENZY: What about Rafa Nadal for this one? He always looks like he is in a bit of a frenzy

NOTORIOUS: Michael Llodra because he is so well known for his antics off court.

VERTIGO: It is not possible to go past John Isner

THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH: My pick here is Novak Djokovic

SPELLBOUND: What about Serena Williams because she has people stunned with her tennis pretty much all the time?

REAR WINDOW: I’d say Lleyton Hewitt because his eyes are always darting around like on a lookout

UNDER CAPRICORN: We’ll go with Angelique Kerber because that’s her star sign

TORN CURTAIN: I’m going with Li Na because she has really ripped what was known as the bamboo curtain

SUSPICION: I’d say Sergiy Stakhovsky because it always seems that he feels there is an ulterior motive in play with things

And now for a drum roll for the final one, and the most famous of all Hitchcock movies:

PSYCHO: I know who I have in mind but I’m leaving it for you to fill in the space.... LOL!
