It doesn't seem so long ago that Paradorn Srichaphan of Thailand graced the world's tennis courts. He reached a world ranking in the top 10 and was adored in his homeland. Probably the only person more highly respected was the King himself. He couldn't walk down a street without being mobbed and one TV channel was dedicated to constantly screening his matches.
Injuries got the better of him and in 2007 he retired. Having known him quite well in his playing days, it was a pleaseure to catch up with him again at the opening ceremony of the new Asia Tennis Centre in his home city of Bangkok.
